Healthy and Easy Smoothie Recipes for Kids

Smoothies are a great way to give your kids a healthy and delicious snack or meal. These easy and delicious fruit and yogurt smoothies are the perfect breakfast to jump-start your child's day, as well as your own! Sometimes it is hard to get children to eat the recommended servings of fruit per day, so a cool and refreshing smoothie treat is a sure fire way to get that extra fruit in. They are so delectable that kids will think they are getting a special treat! Your children will not even know they are eating yogurt which can be beneficial for those picky eaters. Each of the following recipes should make enough for two generous sized smoothies.

Strawberry Blast Smoothie

-½ cup of orange juice

-1cup fresh strawberries

-1 cup fat-free vanilla or strawberry yogurt

-1 cup of ice

-fat-free whipped cream (optional)

Place all ingredients in the blender container, cover and blend until thick and creamy. Pour smoothie mixture into 2 tall glasses and top with the fat-free whipped cream, if using. And enjoy!

Blueberry Banana Smoothie

-1 ripe banana

-1/2 cup frozen blueberries

-1 cup fat-free plain or vanilla yogurt

-1 cup of fat-free milk

Place all ingredients in the blender, cover and blend until smooth. Serve and enjoy!

To add an extra nutritional boost to your smoothies you can add some secret ingredients such as wheat germ, ground flax seed or flax oil, protein powder, or even oatmeal to suit your needs. You can control the consistency of your smoothies, if your like your smoothies thicker use less juice or milk and vice versa. Also, you can substitute some honey for sweetness instead of using the fruit juice which will thin the smoothie a bit. You can also add ice as you wish in order to obtain the desired slushiness.

You can also make these smoothie recipes all dairy free by substituting for soy yogurt and milk or rice milk. Once you have the basic recipe you can customize and create your own delicious combinations. Any flavored yogurt and any variety of fruit will work perfectly in these smoothies, the possibilities are limitless! Have fun experimenting and trying new flavor combinations.
